My Horse Altar (Miroballo Altar)
The Miroballo Altar, also known as the "My Horse Altar," is a Renaissance marble sculptural complex located in the Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara in Naples, Italy. Attributed to various artists of the Lombard school, the altar dates back to the late 15th century. It is believed to have been commissioned by Antonio Miroballo, a prominent figure in the Kingdom of Naples during that period. The Miroballo family was among the most influential noble families in the region, with Antonio serving as the president of the Royal Chamber of the Summaria in 1432 and later as the Bishop of Lettere in 1478. The Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara, where the altar is situated, was founded by the Augustinians in 1343 and completed in the early 15th century under King Ladislaus of Durazzo. The church serves as a pantheon for the last of the Angevin rulers of Naples. Its façade, constructed in 1707 or 1708 by Ferdinando Sanfelice, features a Gothic portal with a lunette frescoed by the Lombard Leonardo da Besozzo. (tour.naples.it)
