St Peter's Church in Aldborough Hatch, Ilford, is a Grade II listed building renowned for its distinctive Early English architectural style. Constructed in 1862, the church was designed by architect Arthur Ashpitel, who was known for his contributions to the Gothic Revival movement. The building is constructed from Kentish ragstone and features a steep-pitched slate roof with a small belfry and shingle spire on the north side of the chancel. (britishlistedbuildings.co.uk)

The church was consecrated on 6 May 1862, and its design includes a chancel, nave, and a north porch. The interior boasts a pitch-pine roof and stained glass windows by Hardman's, adding to its aesthetic appeal. An interesting feature is the organ, built by Gray and Davison for the 1862 London Exhibition. After being installed in a public house in the East End of London, it was acquired by Charles and Bessie Painter of Aldborough Hall in 1898 and presented to the church in memory of their son, Charles Alec, who died in 1893. The organ was hand-pumped until 1951 and has undergone several restorations, including a significant one in 1994. (en.wikipedia.org)

Adjacent to the church, the Aldborough Hatch Church of England School was built in 1867 to accommodate 160 children. The school was closed in 1912, and the building was adapted for use as church halls. In 1948, the site of the church halls was purchased from the Crown Land Commissioners for £50. The halls were extended in 1958, and in 1979, the headquarters of the 1st Aldborough Hatch (St. Peter's) Scout Group was added. (en.wikipedia.org)

The churchyard is the final resting place for several individuals, including Commonwealth war graves from both World Wars. Notably, the grave of 2nd Lieutenant Harry Walter Jassby, a Canadian RAF officer who died in 1918, is located here. His headstone bears a Star of David and a Hebrew inscription, reflecting the Jewish tradition maintained in this Anglican place of burial. (thelondondead.blogspot.com)
