The idea for the mosque originated with the Italian governor, Giuseppe Maglioli, who suggested that the city's residents raise funds to establish an association dedicated to building this religious edifice. A plot of land belonging to Madame Maurice was purchased, and construction began in 1928. The mosque was officially opened in January 1931. It features a traditional Moroccan architectural design and includes a 35-meter-high minaret, which was added in 1994 after the mosque's expansion. This mosque serves as a center of cultural and religious influence, hosting Friday prayers, religious lessons, and cultural seminars. In addition to its religious role, the mosque contributes to charitable and social activities, providing support to those in need and participating in organizing cultural and social events that strengthen the cohesion of the local community. The Ain Touati Mosque stands as a testament to the city's history and development, embodying the coexistence and integration of the various cultures that have passed through Tangier. Visiting the mosque is an opportunity to learn about the city’s rich history, enjoy the beauty of its architectural design, and participate in the religious and cultural activities it organizes.
